I was on the phone speaking with a customer service rep for the Best Buy Reward Zone MasterCard, when suddenly the call was disconnected. That in itself wasn’t unusual - it happens all the time with Sype. :( I called back, entered my account info, just like the first time around, and it failed. Huh? Okay, so I re-enter it - failed again. So I had to wait to be put through to another CSR, gave my account info (again) and it worked. Weird.
The whole reason I called is because I was, once again, charged a $59 yearly fee. When I signed up two years ago, I was told there wouldn’t be one. Once I signed the paperwork, I asked for a copy for my records. Mysteriously (or coincidentally?) the store employee couldn’t give me one. When my first statement arrived and I saw the fee, I got on the phone with them and they apologized and removed the fee - but not before slapping me with a late fee while I was working with them to resolve the problem.
Once I had the fees all reversed, I went on my merry way. Then, one year later, I got slapped with the fee again! So, I call them up, explain everything up ‘til this point, and tell them I’d like to cancel. They ask if they reverse the fee, would I consider keeping the card? I say sure, why not. I use it maybe once a year, if that.
As if on cue, last week (one year later) I received a statement with - you guessed it! - a yearly fee attached! This time I called them up and had them cancel it. I don’t think she understood that I offered to keep the card if they reverse the fee again. Instead, she reversed the fee and canceled my account. Oh well, I didn’t really use it anyway.
